My hands are large and clumsy.
They try to hold my small world together,
But they fail,
As my life slips through them
Like sand.

I can't bear to look in the mirror.
For I see
Only my incompetence
Staring back at me-
My failure-
My stupidity-
My inadequacy-
Me.

The desire to elude this pain
Throbbs in my head.

I smiled once.
But life has beaten me down.

I sit in the corner,
And chew on my nails.
I cry,
And I wonder-
Why those I reach out to,
Kick dirt in my face?
When all I want
Is a helping hand up.

Pain is my only friend
And sorrow, my only companion.
As we walk over life's cliff,
To drown in an ocean of despair.
